College

When I was little, I was impacted by my parents that when I grow up, I will become a doctor. I really did wanted to be a doctor for a while but as I grew up, I relize being in the medical field is not for me. The thing about asians parent is they want you to have a good education and go to college and become a doctor or laywer but, that is not my dream. My dreams are too big for this small town!
When I graduate from high school, I want to get a really good scholarship like the Gates Millenium because it covers out of state tuitions. I want to go to college in California because I want to major in Performing Arts. As you know California has most of the best acting schools. The school that caught my eyes is California Insitute of Art. I heard that is a very good school and alot of actors ar from that school. Also the campus and the majoring that have is perfect for me!
The only disadvantage is that the school is in California which is far from home. My parents doesn't want me to go away for college because they don't think I'm ready yet. Also the tuition fees is very high. They will only accept and pay for you tuition fee through scholarships but they don't give you money back. This degree is very important to me because my dream is to be an actress. I love acting with a passion and I really hope to be successful one day and proof to my parents that I can do it!

Blog #3 Personal Statement

Sometimes I wonder how my family life would be like if this person didn't help us. How do we make a living? Where do we live? and Is there a future of us? This person has not only impacted my life but my whole family. Without her, my family wouldn't be where we are right now. The person that I love, respect, and value is my Grandma. She is the most amazing person ever!

Eleven years ago, I wasn't here in Omaha, Nebraska. I was born in Vietnam and lived there for 5 years. My Grandma move to Nebraska from Vietnam when I was 3 1/2 and I remember crying so much when we took her to the airport. Without knowing any english or anyone, my grandparents, aunts, and uncle moved to Nebraska and worked very hard. I remember hearding storys about my grandparents having to wake up at 4 am and go to work till 4 pm. The job that they had was not a good paying job at all, but what job can you get at that time when you're new here and didn't speak any english. They work very hard and save up money and send it back to Vietnam for my family so we can have a good life and to pay for my education.

After two years, my grandparents did alot of papers works so we can come here and have a better life. For us moving here was hard but we were luckier than my grandparents because we have them and they didn't have anyone. My parents appriciate all the things my grandparents did for us. All the things they did for us, we can never repaid them back. I know that is not only my Grandma that I should look up too because my Grandpa contributed a lot too but my Grandma stand out so much.

She is the most bravest caring loving person I've known beside my parents. She work hard for all of her kids and provided them everything they needed. As a grandma, she takes care of me and all my little siblings and cousins. She is a great woman but trouble always seem to be coming at her but, she always faces them and would get passed it. Without her, I wouldn't even be here right now typing this out for you. All of the things that my family earned, we have to thank my Grandma for it. When I move out of state for college, (its like my Grandma moving to Nebraska without knowing anyone ) I will not know anyone and all I have is myself. I will be brave and work hard like my Grandma because I know good things will come to people who are hardworking. She is my motivation and I love her so much!

Blog #2 My First Week as a College Student

I am not ready to be a college student yet, but being in this program has given me a head start to know how it feels like to be in college. The class that I enrolled in was Speech. When I enrolled in this class, I though it was a regular Speech class where you talk and do presentation in front of your classmate but, it wasn't. The Speech class that I enrolled for was Speech but it was Communication in small group. At first I though I wouldn't like this class because I have classmates that are range from 30-40 years old and it was really weird. After a week in this classs I was fascinated by how much I've learned from those grown-ups and I really appreciated it .

My professor is very spontaneous and outgoing. The way she teaches our class is very easy to understand and she doesn't make us fall asleep. We have quizzes every other day and study group is a really important class because when I read the chapters I wouldn't get it but, when we have study group, we go over everything and its very helpful to me. My RTA is very helpful and outgoing. She knows how to direct a group and help us with our reading.

UNO campus is huge, compare nothing to Bryan High which is very small. In high school, walking to class was pretty close. At UNO walking to class and parking is quite long but I don't really mind because its good exercise. In high school when you want to go to the restroom, guidance, or nurse, you have to sign your agenda and have permission to go. College is so much different! You can just walk out of class without asking when you need to do something or go somewhere. I really like it because it shows that you can be responsible and they trust you.
Going through this program, I learned a lot of things about myself and made new friends that I know will impact my life in a good way!

Blog #1 Residential Life with Student Scholars

When I was accepted into Summer Scholars of 2010, I was really excited and couldn't wait for it to start. The day before I move into Scott Hall, I was really excited and was eager to know who my roommates were. When I move in, I met my roommates and they were really nice and quiet . We didn't really talk much but, when we do it's about who's going to shower first. Being in this program has helped me gained confident and truly bring me out of my shell( comfort zone).

I have made so many new friends from different schools and we got to know a lot about each other. When I first move into the dorms, I didn't really know anyone and I was scared. I though I wouldn't make any friends because most of the people already knew each other. My all time favorite activities that we did was the co-op team building at Camp Carol Joy Holling. I made a bunch of new friends and learn how to rely on your friends and trust them through those dangerous obsticle. If it wasn't for Summer Scholars, I would never get the chance to do it! So I was wrong, I did made a lot of new friends, I just need to get to know them and be open minded .

As days past, living in the dorm with my roommates, I got to know them better. They are really nice friendly people but you have to take time to know them. I shouldn't judge a book by its cover because I did. I really hope we had more time to stay at Scott Hall because its sad that when you get to know that person really well, you have to leave. I really enjoy staying at Scott Hall with my friends and it gave me a good experience time living in dorms when I'm going to move out for college. The people there was amazing, the food was great, and the RTA's were really helpful when you needed them.
